Domestic wiring is divided into mains power cables, low-voltage signal cables and special-purpose cables, complying with European EN standards.
1. Low Voltage Mains Cables (230V AC Household Supply)
Solid copper conductors, flame retardant versions recommended, CE certified.
- H07V-U single-core solid cable: Concealed wall/floor conduit wiring
- H07V-R multi-strand flexible cable: Distribution box wiring & complex ceiling bends
- H07V-U/H07V-R FR flame retardant variants: Self-extinguishing, standard residential solution
- H05Z-U / H07Z-R low-smoke zero-halogen cables: 90°C thermal resistance, low toxic smoke, for premium residential projects
Cross-section sizing reference: Lighting 1.5mm² | General sockets 2.5mm² | Kitchen / Air conditioning 4mm² | Main incoming cable ≥6mm²
2. Low Voltage Signal Cables (Data, Audio & Video, EMI resistant)
- Twisted pair LAN cables (EN 50288 series) Cat6: Standard for new build homes, stable Gigabit transmission Cat6A: Full 100m 10Gbps performance, ideal for NAS & high-speed home networks Cat5e: Only for temporary refurbishment of older properties Unshielded UTP cable is preferred for domestic use; shielded FTP/STP requires continuous full earthing
- RG6 coaxial cable (EN 50117): Traditional CATV signal transmission
- Single-mode optical fibre (EN 60793): FTTR whole-home fibre networking
- Fibre HDMI cable: Long-distance interconnection of projectors & media devices (>5m)
3. Special Application Cables
- H05VV-F multi-core sheathed flexible cable: Surface wiring & temporary power supply, prohibited for concealed main circuits
- Speaker cable (EN 50525): Oxygen-free copper construction, for home cinema & background audio systems
Standard Compliance Requirements
Power cables: CE marking, solid copper conductor, compliant with EN 50525 Signal cables: Oxygen-free copper core, copper-clad aluminium cables are not recommended due to high signal attenuation
